A policeman in Switzerland is appealing a conviction on bribery charges after it was revealed he had traded a residency permit for sexual favours from a male Iraqi asylum seeker.

The incident occurred in 2010 and has only recently come to court after the 63-year-old former policeman had left the police force, reports Swiss paper Blick.

According to the prosecution, the police officer forced the migrant to engage in oral sex on three separate occasions in a car and at the home of the former officer. The Iraqi had been in Switzerland since 2006 and by 2010 he was facing deportation.

The former officer denies that any bribery for sexual services ever took place and is demanding an acquittal. The 63-year-old and his defence lawyer, Cyrielle Friedrich, will appeal the court’s decision. Ms. Friedrich accused the asylum seeker of fabricating the story in order to better his chances of claiming asylum and avoid deportation.

Ms. Friedrich said of the asylum seeker, “he won seven long years [living in Switzerland] playing his games”. The lawyer for the prosecution has also appealed the ruling demanding that the sentence should be increased to 24 months.

This not the first case of sexual impropriety between migrants and figures of authority in Switzerland. Earlier this year, an asylum seeker who was serving a sentence for rape in a Swiss prison was freed by a female prison guard who had become romantically and sexually attached to him.

The pair, Syrian migrant Hassan Kiko and former prison guard Angela Magdici, fled to Italy where they were both captured by authorities a month after the incident. The arrest came less than a week after the pair had posted a video mocking police and complaining about prison food while Magdici said she had freed the serial rapist because she loved him.

In Calais, Open Borders activists are also accused of exploiting migrants for sex. A discussion on a Facebook group revealed that some activists defended their sexual relationships with the migrants as normal, yet many other viewed the actions as a breach of proper conduct in their roles as volunteers at the camp.

One pro-migrant volunteer went as far as to write: ” I have heard of volunteers having sex with multiple partners in one day, only to carry on in the same vein the following day. And I know also, that I’m only hearing a small part of a wider scale of abuse.”
