A petition to subvert British democracy and insist on a re-run of the EU referendum has now hit over one million signatures.
The petition, set up by student William Oliver Healey, is entitled: “EU Referendum Rules triggering a 2nd EU Referendum” and demands: “We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum.”
There is no indication that Remain campaigners would have sought to implement such rules had they won the referendum, and there was no push from either campaign for such thresholds before the referendum was run.
Nonetheless, Remain campaigners are using the petition to claim that the British public are unhappy with the result they themselves voted for.
One Leave source told Breitbart London the new petition was “sour grapes”, and that even if the petition hit five million signatures, it would still be nowhere close to the number of people who voted to Leave in the referendum this week.
Even the outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron insisted before the referendum took place that there could be no second bite of the cherry, though he did stress that was “if we vote to Remain”.
He tweeted on May 17: “The Leave campaign is wrong to say there’ll be a 2nd referendum if we vote to remain in the EU. This is a referendum and not a neverendum.”
