More than 400 personal possessions belonging to the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher are up for auction tomorrow in a sale that is expected to raise at least £500,000.

Baroness Thatcher’s daughter, Carol, has put the mementos up for sale at Christie’s auction house in London.

The sale is not without controversy, however, with Lady Thatcher’s son, Sir Mark, strongly objecting. One source close to the family told the Mail on Sunday: “For once, Mark is on the side of the angels. His only concern is to protect his mother’s legacy and he thinks this sale is simply abhorrent. They were extraordinarily close and he would never sell anything of hers.”

It is reported that Carol and Sir Mark, who are twins, “cannot bear to be in the same room” thanks to the sale.
