A mother who spoke out against her daughter’s school imposing LGBT awareness week on its pupils has attracted the full force of liberal criticism, even being labelled ‘extreme’. The pupils at King Solomon High School were given rainbow badges to wear, and were told to dress in rainbow coloured clothes.
Anna Erickson-Hull took to Facebook to speak out after her daughter Lily returned home from sixth form college sporting one.
Anna wrote on the social media site: “You cannot force this filth on children…It is not lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender week in my house we will be serving the Lord as usual and NOT promoting sin so KS High School, you can keep your abomination badge,” following up her comment by quoting 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – “do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived…”
In the comments she went on to explain: “Apparently all children from age 11+ were given one of these [badges] and told if they do not wear it they will have to sit detention after school.”
The school’s deputy head, Sam Walters, alluded to the government’s guidelines on “British values” during his defence of the LGBT week, saying “As a school, we have a duty to prepare our students for life in modern Britain.”
However he refuted the claim that children would face detention if they didn’t wear them.
As well as wearing the badges and rainbow clothing, the children were encouraged to celebrate “freedom”, “equality”, “pride” and “rights”.
Her post received hundreds of likes, but also immediately attracted fierce criticism. Anna defended her view within the comments, adding: “Not my opinion. Bible truth”.
Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, said:
“We need to wake up and realise how blatantly the LGBT agenda is being imposed on children in schools. It is promoted as tolerance, but this incident highlights how intolerant it really is. Children are being encouraged not only to accept but to celebrate sexual behaviour that is contrary to biblical teaching. How is that consistent with freedom of religion?
“Christian parents need to contact their children’s schools and find out where they stand on these issues.”
But the post was quickly seized upon by the media, who portrayed Anna as a Christian radical while praising Facebook users and other parents at the school for berating her.
The Daily Mail accused her of ‘liking’ “extreme Christian groups on Facebook such as ‘Abolish Human Abortion’, ‘The Bible is against homosexuality’ and ‘I love Jesus Christ’.”
The latter page, which has been liked by more than four million people, promotes a Christian focus for Christmas and tips for happy marriages.
The paper also praised fellow mother Ruth Landsman, who commented on the post “If one more child decides that they have the courage to tell their parents about their confusion at their sexuality, job done.
“So pleased that the school has chosen to support LGBT week and promote tolerance and understanding in our own community.”
Meanwhile Anna is still being mobbed on Facebook as she defends Christianity and Jesus. On a recent post in which she commented simply “Gonna wear my #teamJesus badge today… feel free to join me. 1 Peter 2 v 12,” Facebook users have instead mocked and insulted her.
Harriet Louise Connor wrote: “Which Jesus are you supporting? Jesus David Torres, aka Dahvie Vanity, lead singer of scene band Blood on the Dance Floor?”
Christopher James commented “Hey, I know Jesus! He works at the tortilla factory with me-he’s awesome!!!”
Ashley Feijoo said simply: “I hope you get shot.” On a later post she added: “Go kill yourself, get home to him faster.”
Commenting on her original post regarding the school’s LGBT week, Walters said: “We haven’t spoken to the parent but everybody has come together in a mature, informed and admirable way.
“As a community made up of different races, religions and sexual orientations they came together and stood their ground and shared their views.”
