IN PICTURES: Socialists Protest UK Spending Review, Just 5 Activists ‘Devastate’ Chancellor’s Family’s London Wallpaper Shop

LONDON, United Kingdom – Just five protesters gathered outside of Osborne and Little, a family-owned wallpaper shop promising to “devastate the avenues where the wealthy live”, while around 100 people gathered near Downing Street last night to protest the British government’s spending review today.

Wielding A4 paper print outs of Chancellor George Osborne’s face with the word “WANKER” under it, five people targeted the Osborne and Little wallpaper and fabric shop in London’s King’s Road in Chelsea. Around 100 people gathered in Westminster last night wearing George Osborne and David Cameron masks, hold a sign that said: “NIGHTMARE”.

The demonstrations were in protest of the British government’s spending increase reductions, often mis-reported as “cuts”.

But protesters may have been disappointed as the Chancellor announced no reductions to tax credits – a left-wing welfare issue that has caused uproar over the past few weeks. Mr. Osborne also announced no further reductions to police budgets either.

But conservatives concerned with the country’s finances rather than simply winning elections may not receive Mr. Osborne’s statements warmly today. His new plans mean that Britain’s debt-to-GDP ratio will again be revised, and won’t fall as fast as promised in 2010 or 2014. Britain’s public spending is due to rise still, and the Chancellor has repeatedly missed his deficit reduction targets, and failed to address the national debt in the United Kingdom in 5 years in government.
