A vulnerable teenage girl was repeatedly raped and abused by a gang of 15 Muslim men, a court has heard.
The girl, who was aged 13 and 14 during the assaults, was repeatedly raped in encounters that were arranged by a drug dealer in the town of Keighley, West Yorkshire, the jury was told.
Thirteen men and a youth aged 17 are charged with a total of 28 sexual offences against the girl, The Times reports. They all deny the charges.
Prosecutors told Bradford Crown Court that the abuse began when the white girl told Arif Choudhury, who is not facing charges, that she would no longer deliver drugs for him.
Speaking for the prosecution, Michelle Colborne QC told the court the girl started working for Mr Choudhury after she became unhappy at home. She was “desperate to fit in” and “was noted to be a reserved young girl with low self-esteem. She had no friends.”
Mr Choudhury, who was aged 15 at the time, is alleged to have physically assaulted the girl and raped her before introducing her to other men. The court heard that many of the rapes occurred when the defendants threatened to call Mr Choudhury if the girl did not do what they said.
Mr Choudhury was allegedly present at most of the attacks, which happened mostly in churchyards, parks and carparks around the town of Keighley.
On one occasion, the girl was forced to have sex with five defendants: Nazir Khan, 23, Saqib Younis, 29, Hussain Sardar, 19, Zain Ali, 20 and Faisal Khan, 27.
Another attack involving Sufyan Ziarab, 22, Yasser Kabir, 25, Bilal Ziarab, 21, and Tauqeer Hussain, 23, allegedly happened the underground carpark of a disused police station. Police found graffiti on the walls bearing the girl’s name and the names of the defendants.
The court also heard that the girl was forced to perform oral sex on Rohail Iqbal, 22, and Rohail Hussain, 18, outside the local leisure centre, while Israr Ali, 19, while is accused of forcing her to carry out oral sex on him in a park.
The 17-year-old defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also accused of raping the girl.
Tauqueer Hussain is also accused of raping another girl in 2009.
Ms Colborne said: “She was being exploited and was out of her depth but was too naive to do anything about it.”
The trial continues.
