A Munich club has filed for bankruptcy after American rapper and actor Snoop Dogg failed to appear for a gig, angering ticketholders.

Snoop Dogg claims Munich promoter Marco Sansone breached multiple contractual terms and put up a quantity of money so small he “wouldn’t even bother getting up for it”, reports German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ). For his part the club owner says he did everything he could to make the appearance happen, although some money was paid in euros rather than dollars.

Either way, the exact reasons for Snoop Dogg’s no-show at the Zenith on 17 July this year remain unclear. What is known is that disappointed fans who came to the club to see the legendary rapper weren’t best pleased, and a riot almost broke out.

Venting their anger, the club-goers set off fire extinguishers, hurled drinks at the stage and attacked the sound systems. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg was busy appearing at another club about 50 miles away in Augsburg.

Fans in Munich demanded their money back and Sansone was “threatened and insulted” across social media.

Insolvency lawyer Björn Hellfeld says the after effects of the no-show and ongoing costs involved with running the club have brought the business into financial difficulty. Not only are significantly fewer people coming to the Zenith as word spread about the incident, but the drop in revenue has made it impossible to buy new drink stocks.

At the same time ticketholders are claiming back the €30-€59 price of their tickets, forcing the Zenith to file for bankruptcy.

It is reported that Sansone’s insolvency lawyer is now looking at whether he can claim compensation from Snoop Dogg.
