Breitbart London’s Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam was one of the two participants in the Sky News debate this morning on the European migrant crisis. He said that Britain couldn’t afford to take more migrants, especially if, as his opponent, author Bidisha claimed, that Britain’s Treasury would need to be raided to accommodate hundreds of thousands of more people.
The interview came as a number of British news outlets published a highly emotive picture of a dead child washed up on a beach, which the liberals in the political establishment have used as a means to argue that Britain should take more migrants. Kassam said that it was “devious” of the media to use such evocative images when dealing with the issue, and stressed the practicalities of integrating and accomodating thousands of new people into Britain.
He was asked what he made of Labour leadership candidate Yvette Cooper’s claim that Britain could take 10,000 new refugees – wherein he highlighted that the figures Ms. Cooper actually cited were for just one month, according to the Guardian newspaper. Ms. Cooper appeared on Sky shortly after to deny she ever made the claim, despite the evidence.
Kassam said: “Britain made it very clear that we wouldn’t be a part of the common asylum policy… to say we should borrow more money and spend more money on national infrastructure to deal with hundreds of thousands of refugees coming over, and not look after the British people first… I just don’t see how you can justify that to the British electorate, to the taxpayers of this country.” You can watch the full video of the interview below, and read Kassam’s latest take on the migration crisis by clicking here, in his piece entitled The Ships That Sunk a Thousand Faces: Britain’s Emotional Response to Europe’s Migrant Crisis.
