Businessman and TV personality Alan Sugar has resigned from the Labour Party.
The long-time Labour supporter, who fronts the UK’s version of The Apprentice, said he had lost faith in the party, accusing it of having “negative business policies and general anti-enterprise concepts”.
Lord Sugar built his business, Amstrad, from scratch, growing it into one of the UK’s largest companies. In 2005 he was chosen to front Britain’s version of the TV show The Apprentice, taking the same role as Donald Trump in the US version.
In 2009, Gordon Brown awarded him a peerage and he became a government advisor on enterprise in the House of Lords, sitting on the Labour benches.
He wrote on Twitter today:
Lord Sugar will continue to sit in the House of Lords as a Crossbench peer.
