BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom — The Conservative Party conference has begun with a bang as, moments after Member of Parliament Mark Reckless resigned and defected to UKIP, another Tory MP has resigned, this time over allegedly lewd social media pictures.
Sky News reported this afternoon that Brooks Newmark MP, the minister for Braintree resigned following a news story expected in the Sunday Mirror tomorrow.
Sources close to Breitbart London have indicated that the pictures, sent by Newmark via social media, contained images of Mr Newmark’s penis, though the allegation is yet to be confirmed.
Speaking on the incident tonight, Mr Newmark said: “I have decided to resign as Minister for Civil Society having been notified of a story to be published in a Sunday newspaper. I would like to appeal for the privacy of my family to be respected at this time. I remain a loyal supporter of this Government as its long term economic plan continues to deliver for the British people.”
The news will come as another blow to Prime Minister David Cameron as he prepares for an intense 3 day conference in Birmingham – the last before a General Election next year.
Mr Newmark remains the Member of Parliament for Braintree, having only resigned his ministerial post.
