A video has been posted online reportedly showing the execution of a French tourist by an ISIS-linked group in Algeria.
Herve Gourdel was kidnapped on Sunday in the north east of the country by militant group Al-Khilafa. The group threatened to kill him if France did not end its involvemet in US-led air strikes against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
The group originally showed Gourdel in a video flanked by armed men, saying they would target citizens of Western countries, “especially the spiteful and filthy French”.
Before the latest video was released, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said there would “no discussion” and “no negotiation” and with group. “If you give in, if you go back one inch… you give them this victory.”
The Jund al-Khilafa group grew out of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and have carried out numerous terror attacks, including the killing of 11 soldiers in an ambush earlier this year. Earlier this month, they broke their allegiance with Al Qaeda and pledged their support to ISIS instead.
