German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived Saturday in Kiev for crucial talks with Ukraine’s pro-Western leadership on how to end the bloodshed in the east of the country.
Merkel is meeting President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and several mayors of Ukrainian cities on her one-day visit as fighting between Kiev’s military and pro-Russian separatists in the east has left more than 2,200 dead since April.
