A man who was protesting at the pro-Palestinian rally in Manchester has reportedly stood in front of pro-Israel protesters in the city centre and performed the Nazi salute.

The news comes from Manchester Evening News journalist Jennifer Williams’s Twitter feed. Williams attended the Manchester rally today, which passed largely without incident.

Williams tweeted: “Someone at Israeli protest on king st just walked past abs did Nazi salute”. This was followed by: “He was taken away by cops”. 

Protests were held across the UK today as the Stop the War Coalition – which ironically has called for war against Israel – urged thousands to attend a rally on the streets of London.

Earlier today it was revealed by the Manchester Evening News that policing the demonstrations has cost taxpayers £30,000 so far – more than the average police officer earns in a year.

In Manchester, pro-Israel protesters were penned into a small, fenced off area while pro-Palestinian protesters roamed the streets and the marketplace causing significant disruption. Williams tweeted the following updates:
