Tory MP: I Would Punch Female Journalist in the Throat

A Conservative Member of Parliament is facing a backlash after appeared to tweet about physically assaulting a female journalist by punching her in the throat. Michael Fabricant’s Twitter account contained a message about Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, according to the Independent.  

The message, which he went after watching a Channel 4 debate between Alibhai-Brown and the Spectator columnist Rob Liddle said: “I could never appear on a discussion prog with @y_alibhai I would either end up with a brain haemorrhage or by punching her in the throat.”

This prompted Gloria De Piero, Labour’s shadow minister for women to brand the comments “disgusting”. She also said: “I think you shld apologise to @y_alibhai.” 

Last night’s Channel4 debate on religion and British values had got heated and at one point Alibhai-Brown said to Liddle: “I have no words for how much I loathe you.” With Mr Liddle responding: “I feel warm inside and I’d like to embrace Yasmin for saying that.”

As previously reported on Breitbart London, Mr Fabricant has landed himself in hot water before over his liberal use of Twitter. He was sacked as Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party after he said it was “about time” when Maria Miller resigned as Culture Secretary. He also made a crass joke about llamas when asked about his sexuality.

The Lichfield MP is also famous for his striking blonde hairstyle, which is widely rumoured to be an unrealistic wig.

This is the latest in a series of scandals in which rival politicians feign anger over comments on Twitter. A number of MPs have been called on to publicly apologise for very trivial comments, leading to concerns that free speech is being undermined for the purposes of political point scoring.
