A small group of protesters at today’s ‘UKIP carnival‘ in London claimed to be Romanians offended by the party’s immigration policy.
I filmed with interest as Channel 4’s Michael Crick and the BBC’s Paul Lambert attempted to find out where the protesters were from. They carried posters claiming they were from Romania, but after a minute of questioning, they soon fell apart and admitted having no links to the country.
Once the protesters were exposed, they began to change their story, claiming “We are all Romanians now” in some sort of solidarity with Romanian people, despite some vocally not sharing their views.
At one point, a protester tells Michael Crick that he too is Romanian. I asked him to clarify. He said, “No I’m not, I’m English”.
Fair enough.
