Malaysia’s Defence and Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is under fire for agreeing with a tweet sent to him by a journalist that claimed the disappearance of flight MH370 was a ‘blessing in disguise’.
Hussein’s “inappropriate comments” were prompted by journalist Ismail Amsyar, who has since apologised and deleted his tweet.
The Daily Mail reports that last night, Amsyar tweeted at the minister saying: “MH370 is a blessing in disguise for all of us. I understand now the beauty of unity, the sweetness of having each other.”
The Minister responded, “Right u are :)”
Twitter users were incensed by the comments, which Amsyar took responsibility for. He replied to various messages, as well as death threats as a result of his tweet.
“I understand, I hv explained & I’ve apologised. If every word counts, u shud count my explanation and d discussion on that,” he wrote.
The journalist apologised to the Defence Minister also, stating, “Lastly, to @HishammuddinH2O, I’m sorry to have drag u into this. Didn’t mean to. to everybody out there, once again, i apologise 4 d tweet”.
The Malaysian minister, who is under fire for the general handling for the missing Boeing 777, has not yet commented, though his tweet has been deleted.
