Beyoncé Knowles’ fans are blaming the pop superstar for Democratic Texas Senate candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke losing to incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday evening, saying her last-minute endorsement should have been made earlier in the hotly contested race.
Beyoncé, donning a “Beto for Senate” baseball hat, urged her millions of fans to support the far-left candidate with just hours remaining until polls closed. “I’m feeling grateful for everyone before me who fought so hard to give us all the right to have a voice,” the Drunk in Love songstress wrote in an Instagram post.
“We can’t voice our frustrations and complain about what’s wrong without voting and exercising our power to make it right. We need you. We all need each other, because when we are truly united we are unstoppable,” she continued. “Sending you all love and positivity on this happy voting day! Every vote counts Every race matters Everywhere.”
Reacting to the 11th-hour endorsement, O’Rourke took to Twitter to thank Beyonce for her support.
With 99% of the votes tailed, Cruz defeated O’Rourke 50.9 percent to 48.3 percent. Some of the singer’s fans took to social media to vent about O’Rourke’s defeat, criticizing the Grammy-winner for not throwing her support behind the progressive lawmaker sooner.
“Lol these posts a week ago could have made the difference in young voters,” one furious fan wrote, according to the New York Post.
One livid Twitter user said: “I blame Beyonce for this! Homegirl couldn’t tweet a day earlier??? #seriously #fixitjesus.”
“You have such a huge, influential voice and you wait until Election Day to post this?!” one comment read.“Beto needed you sooner. Maybe you could’ve actually made a difference.”
“You came out literally two hours before elections were over. Why didn’t you use your influence months ago,” another one wrote.
