Actress and gun control proponent Jamie Lee Curtis defended her use of guns in the upcoming Halloween film by claiming to be pro-Second Amendment — then pushed an “assault weapons” ban and a training and licensing requirement for gun owners.
Curtis told USA Today:
I fully support the Bill of Rights. And fully support the Second Amendment. And have absolutely no problem with people owning firearms if they have been trained, licensed, a background check has been conducted, a pause button has been pushed to give time for that process to take place. And they have to renew their license just like we do with automobiles – which are weapons also.
Curtis did not explain how rights can be licensed nor did she elaborate on how government acquires the authority to regulate that which was purposely placed outside the government’s purview when listed in the Bill of Rights. Remember, the last four words of the Second Amendment: “Shall not be infringed.” Those four words carry the same message as the opening five words of the First Amendment, “Congress shall make no law.”
Nevertheless, Curtis also said she wants “assault weapons” — a.k.a., commonly owned semiautomatic firearms–to be banned too.
On March 24, 2018, Curtis tweeted support for the gun control activists taking part in March for Our Lives:
Three days later, Curtis made clear she was refocusing her energies to get women elected in place of men for the purposes of securing gun control, optional energy sources, etc.
Yet despite her support for bans on commonly owned semiautomatic firearms and bump stocks, as well as pushing a training/licensing requirement for gun owners, Curtis uses guns in the new Halloween film and actually defends using them by explaining that if her gun control views crossed over into her characters she would not be able to get a job. She said, “I’m an actress who’s in slasher movie. I have to be responsible for my own personal choices in my own personal life. But I am an actor for hire. And honestly, if I had made my career as a pacifist actor, I would never have worked, ever.”
