Actress Roseanne Barr explained to a packed audience at the Jerusalem Post Conference on Sunday that her iconic character on Roseanne supports President Donald Trump because she wanted to “be true” to the working class voters who elected him.
“I didn’t have Roseanne the character become a Trump supporter because I am. I had her become a Trump supporter because she’s a working class person. And it is the working class that elected Donald Trump,” Bar said. “So in being true to that little demographic, I had to do it.”
“And besides I just wanted someone to do it. And none of the actors, they were like, ‘no way.'” Roseanne Barr continued, adding, “Well somebody has to voice what 63 percent of the American population thinks — and growing by the day.”
The ABC revival of the celebrated 80s Conner family comedy has been a ratings mega-hit, topping all of its primetime competition in the month of March.
Barr also revealed that she called to personally thank President Trump for his decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
“I said, ‘Mr. President, on behalf of my mother, I want to thank you … for moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Thank you so much,’” Barr said. “And he said, ‘Well, you know a lot of presidents have promised it, but I wanted to get it done.’”
“I think it’s the first step to peace in the world, I really do,” Barr added.
