Left-wing music mogul Russell Simmons is being sued for $5 million by aspiring filmmaker Jennifer Jarosik, claiming he raped her in 2016.
According to Deadline, Jarosik claims Simmons invited her to his Los Angeles home and asked her for sex. When she declined, she alleges he pushed her onto his bed and “pounced on her while she was still in shock and fear, and proceeded to rape her.”
Jarosik did not report the rape to authorities, but Deadline reports that she did tell a “few close friends.” After other women came forward with similar allegations, she contacted Simmons, who “acted as if it never happened.”
Simmons has denied this allegation and the handful of other rape allegations that have surfaced over the last few months, including one from screenwriter Jenny Lumet, daughter of legendary directory Sidney Lumet. Deadline reports that a “formal [NYPD] investigation into the hip-hop mogul’s actions is almost a near certainty at this point.”
In the wake of these allegations, the 60-year-old Simmons has been dropped by HBO, JCPenney, and stepped down from his own companies.
