A-list actresses including Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Emma Stone, and Laura Dern will bring activists along as their guests to this Sunday’s Golden Globes, in a year in which the entertainment industry’s sexual harassment scandal and the #MeToo movement have dominated the conversation.
Streep — who has been heavily criticized for her response to the allegations against her longtime collaborator Harvey Weinstein — will bring along National Domestic Workers Alliance director and 2014 MacArthur fellow Aj-jen Poo, according to Variety.
Streep is nominated for a Best Actress Globe for her role in the Steven Spielberg-directed drama The Post.
Meanwhile, Sarandon will bring activist and political commentator Rosa Clemente, Stone will be accompanied by former tennis pro and Women’s Sport Foundation founder Billie Jean King, and Dern’s plus-one will reportedly be immigration activist and Alianza Nacional de Campesinas co-founder Mónica Ramirez.
Other actresses bringing along activists to Sunday night’s ceremony in Los Angeles include Emma Watson, Amy Poehler, and Shailene Woodley.
Actress Michelle Williams will reportedly attend along with Tarana Burke, senior director at Girls for Gender Equity and the original founder of the #MeToo hashtag movement.
Several actresses are expected to wear all-black ensembles on the Globes red carpet as a protest statement against Hollywood’s ongoing sexual abuse scandal.
Additionally, both actors and actresses will wear specially-made “Times’s Up” lapel pins in an effort to raise awareness of the newly-created Time’s Up initiative, which seeks to provide legal funds and representation to women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted in the workplace.
The Golden Globes kick off at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Stay tuned to the Breitbart News livewire for up-to-the-minute winners, commentary and analysis.
