Michael Moore has called on his social media followers to sign a petition begun by billionaire Democratic Party mega-donor Tom Steyer to urge the U.S. Congress to impeach President Donald Trump.

In a lengthy post to his Facebook page, the 63-year-old documentary filmmaker and left-wing activist — whose anti-Trump stage play just finished its run on Broadway — called Trump “completely unfit for office, a threat to our country and an imminent danger to the world.”

“My friends, we have the most colossal mistake in our history sitting right now in the Oval Office. And there is only one way to rectify it: TRUMP MUST BE IMPEACHED,” Moore wrote. “We can NOT wait until November of 2020 for that to happen. We simply won’t make it til then. The country we know as the United States of America will not be the same after three more years of Trump. You know it and I know it. Turning the TV off and trying to avoid the daily insanity won’t make him go away.‬”

Moore explained that Democrats in the House and Senate would need to be shown that a majority of Americans want to see Trump impeached before they move to actually impeach him.

‪”The cautious and often-frightened Democratic leaders will usually, eventually, finally come around and do the right thing. And they do so because they are good at (sooner or later) listening to the will of the people,” he added.

The petition linked to by Moore calls for the immediate impeachment of Trump and includes a video featuring Steyer warning Americans that Republicans’ efforts at tax reform will only help big corporations and the wealthy. This month, Steyer pledged another $10 million toward his campaign to impeach Trump, after having already invested $10 million to launch it.

Moore, who remains one of the most frequent and outspoken celebrity critics of Trump, was nonetheless one of the only celebrities to accurately predict, in July of last year, that he would beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

In an interview with Rolling Stone published this week, Moore predicted that Trump has a 55 percent chance to win reelection in 2020, as the political winds stand now.

“If you keep listening to the New York Times, if you keep listening to the DNC, we will get the same results,” Moore told the outlet. “We have got to think way outside the box now. We have to think way way outside the box. Also, please tattoo on your forearm, ‘Bush got two terms.’ Look at that every day. ‘Bush got two terms.'”
