Late-night host Conan O’Brien told an Israeli medical team that they deserve a Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts in helping Syrians, the Jerusalem Post reported.
As part of his upcoming documentary, Conan in Israel, O’Brien visited Safed’s Ziv Medical Center, where he spoke to doctors and patients alike about their work in response to the Syrian Civil War.
“I am amazed and excited by what is being done here at Ziv for the sake of people from a neighboring country and an enemy, and I think you are the ones who need to receive the Nobel Peace Prize,” O’Brien told the medical teams.
One of the doctors he met was Dr. Alejandro Roizentol, head of the oral and maxillofacial department, who last year was honored at the Buenos Aires city parliament as an “outstanding personality in the human rights field” for humanitarian work during the Syrian civil war.
“I am only one of the many excellent and moral staffers who carry out humanitarian principles and the doctors’ oath to reach out to anyone in need,” he said.
The last recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize was Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos after he brokered a deal to bring the country’s longstanding civil war to an end. Meanwhile, another nominee was the Syrian rescue group White Helmets, who eventually missed out on the prize.
Last month, O’Brien joked that he was visiting the country to “help Jared Kushner,” who has been tasked by President Donald Trump with brokering a peace deal in the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to Conan’s visit by filming a video lampooning O’Brien, suggesting he would prefer to meet Stephen Colbert instead.
