Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 film The Room is often cited as one of the worst films ever made, with a spectacularly disastrous shooting and editing process — so perhaps it’s only natural that another filmmaker would seek to immortalize that process in a separate film.
The first trailer for The Disaster Artist, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Room, dropped online Tuesday.
James Franco plays Wiseau, who wrote, directed and starred in The Room. The film was so legendarily bad that it has become a kind-of midnight movie masterpiece with a devoted cult following.
The Disaster Artist is based on a book of the same name written by Greg Sestero, who played Mark in the original film.
Franco’s film features a star-studded cast including Bryan Cranston, Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Lizzy Caplan, Kristen Bell, Sharon Stone, Adam Scott, Zac Efron, and Dave Franco. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (The Fault in Our Stars) penned the screenplay.
The Disaster Artist is in theaters December 8.
