Jon Stewart made a cameo appearance on a special live episode of the Late Show Monday night to help host Stephen Colbert convince a young girl (and America) to vote for Hillary Clinton and stop Donald Trump.
Colbert’s usual monologue was replaced by a 10-minute Broadway-style show, led by a young girl who needed convincing to vote.
The little girl, clearly not old enough to vote, began her skit by sobbing and singing, “I’m too scared to vote.”
A singing Colbert chimed in, singing, “Voting gives a voice, to people one and all, from the richest robber baron to the lowliest dirtball.”
Enter Jon Stewart.
The former Daily Show host appeared on stage with spats, a red top hat, and a sash bearing his name.
“I say this to all of you,” Stewart began, “let the young woman do as she please. If the girl does not want to vote, I say the girl does not have to vote.”
“So I don’t have to vote?” the little girl asks.
“Why, heck no,” Stewart responds before breaking out in song and dance.
“There’s nothing in the law that says the people have to vote. Let the child do what she wants, don’t stuff voting down her throat!” Stewart sang.
Colbert insists that “this child has got to vote.”
The Late Night host informs Stewart that Donald Trump is running for president, to his surprise.
“What? Are you kidding me? That son-of-ah… Are you serious? That angry tax-and-draft-dodging little orange groundhog is running for president?” Stewart said before insisting that the little girl go out and vote.
“But he’s running against Hillary Clinton,” the little girl says. “Ugh, I can’t tell which one’s worse.”
“He’s worse!” Stewart and Colbert say unison to thunderous applause from the studio audience. “He’s much worse!”
The girl, again, breaks out in song: “It’s not my fault that the system gave us two unsavory folks. If they shared my values, I’d be first in line to vote. But in civil oligarchy, we don’t have a real choice. How can I change a system that won’t listen to my voice?”
Later in the segment, Hamilton star Javier Muñoz takes the stage and sings a pro-voting rap song.
Finally convinced, Stewart joins Colbert in a musical finale.
“He’s endorsed by David Duke! His tiny hands might get a nuke,” Stewart sings, taking more jabs at Trump. “The planet’s getting hotter! They should’ve nominated his daughter.”
