Rapper Lil Wayne said Tuesday in an interview on ABC’s Nightline that he does not have a connection with the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothin’ to do with me,” the Louisiana rapper said during the interview.
“If you do, you crazy as shit. You. Not the camera,” Lil Wayne said, pointing to ABC News reporter Linsey Davis. “Feeling connected to something that ain’t got nothing to do with you? If it ain’t got nothing to do with me, I ain’t connected to it.”
During a September appearance on Fox Sports 1’s Undisputed, Lil Wayne was asked about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest.
“These 33 years have been nothing but a blessing. I have never — never is a strong word — never dealt with racism, and I’m glad I didn’t have to,” the rapper said.
Asked by Nightline if he would word his repose differently, Lil Wayne said “Not at all.”
“I’m a young, black rich motherf*cker,” the rapper continued. “If that don’t let you know that America understands Black [Lives] Matter these days, I don’t know what it is. Don’t come at me with that dumb sh*t.”
The rapper also addressed the time he spent locked up in Rikers Island for an illegal weapons conviction.
“I learned a lot about people: You’re all on the same level. You’re all going through the same thing. Everybody wants to go home,” Wayne said.
The face-to-face sit-down with ABC reportedly took years to produce. However, moments after it started, Lil Wayne cut his Nightline interview short.
“I ain’t no f*cking politician,” Lil Wayne muttered at the film crew as he snatched off his microphone.
The rapper is currently promoting his memoir, Gone Til November, which he wrote while serving time at Rikers.
