Music mogul and rapper Jay Z will headline a concert for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign before Election Day in the all-important battleground state of Ohio.
The concert, for which a date has not been set, is, according to Buzzfeed News, meant to drum up black voter support for the Democratic nominee.
Jay Z and his pop superstar wife Beyoncé have long-supported Clinton’s candidacy. The Lemonade singer appeared at a $2,700 per person Clinton fundraiser in New York last May. Clinton held a lavish fundraiser last September at Jay Z’s plush New York City nightclub, The 40/40 Club.
The Clinton campaign is currently set to launch a series of concerts in the finals weeks of the campaign, many of them aimed at turning out young and minority voters.
Indeed, tapping Jay-Z is meant to mobilize black voter support for Clinton — a key part of the “Obama Coalition” that she has received a “surprisingly little extra lift” from, according to the New York Times.
News of a possible Jay-Z-headlined pro-Clinton concert in Ohio comes just weeks after Cleveland Cavaliers basketball superstar LeBron James endorsed Clinton for president.
“A Democratic source familiar with the concert said they wouldn’t be surprised if Cleveland Cavaliers star Lebron James made an appearance after endorsing Clinton earlier this month,” Buzzfeed reports.
The latest polling shows Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump pulling an impressive 11 percent of black voters, while his Democratic rival receives 65 percent.
Last month, Jay Z, who endorsed Obama over Clinton in her failed White House bid in 2008, signed a two-year deal with The Weinstein Company to produce film and television projects.
