Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks believes it is not a matter of “if,” but “when” Hillary Clinton wins the presidency, and by how much.
In an interview with the New York Times published Tuesday, the 68-year-old singer said she would like to gather up some of her fellow musicians to perform the song “Landslide” when Clinton beats Republican Donald Trump by that margin in the fall.
“Of course I’m for Hillary Clinton,” Nicks told the Times when asked her thoughts about the upcoming election.
“When she wins by a landslide, I could gather together the Dixie Chicks, Billy Corgan and everybody who’s ever sung a version of ‘Landslide.’ It’s not up-tempo, but it certainly would get the message across.”
Nicks and Fleetwood Mac memorably reunited to perform”Don’t Stop” for Bill Clinton at his inaugural ball in 1993. The song, from the band’s 1977 album Rumours, had become Bill Clinton’s theme song throughout his first campaign.
“It’s hard to think of anything as amazing as that song was for Bill,” Nicks told the Times. “He picked it out when he was driving around in a cab somewhere years before.”
Nicks has sung the praises of the Democratic presidential candidate before; in a January 2015 interview, before Clinton became the party’s nominee, Nicks said she was “100 percent” behind Clinton to take the country’s top job.
“She’s so damn smart,” the singer told MacLean’s. “As far as the Republicans go — and my parents were both Republicans — there is no rising star. If you think of the great Republican presidents, there is no that guy. There is no John Kennedy rising in the Republican world. There is no Ronald Reagan. In the Democratic world, there is no that guy either. There is Hillary. Period.”
Nicks isn’t the only singer with millions of albums sold who wants to serenade Clinton after a potential electoral victory; at a concert in Los Angeles in August, Barbra Streisand told the audience she hoped to sing her hit song, “Happy Days are Here Again” when Clinton wins the White House.
