Longtime Democratic Party contributor and gay icon Barbra Streisand will reportedly headline an LGBT-focused fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in New York in September.
According to an invitation obtained by Buzzfeed, tickets for the September 9 event at Cipriani Wall Street start at $1,200 for dinner and top out at $250,000, with maximum contributions landing donors a meet-and-greet with the Democratic presidential nominee.
Proceeds from the event, hosted by the pro-Clinton group LGBT for Hillary, will go toward the Hillary Victory Fund joint fundraising committee.
The fundraiser is intended to “celebrate equality, build support for our campaign for a stronger America and aim our focus squarely on continued progress by sending Hillary to the White House,” a Clinton campaign spokesman said in a statement.
Streisand has long been a supporter of Clinton’s presidential bid. In March, the 74-year-old ten-time Grammy-winning singer penned an essay for the Huffington Post in which she criticized the media’s “outright sexism” in its coverage of the candidate’s campaign.
“Why is it that today even a woman as impressive as Hillary Clinton is judged not by her merits and extensive resume alone, but held to a pernicious double standard?” Streisand wrote.
Earlier this month, the singer kicked off her summer tour in Los Angeles with what one attendee described as a joyous celebration of Clinton’s victory in the Democratic Party primary.
Streisand has also been a vocal critic of Clinton’s chief opponent, Republican nominee Donald Trump, calling his candidacy “terrifyingly scary” in an interview last year.
The Streisand-hosted fundraiser is just one of several star-studded events the Clinton campaign has lined up as the presidential race enters the home stretch.
Later this month, Clinton will travel to Los Angeles for a celebrity-packed lunch at the home of actor Leonardo DiCaprio, with tickets starting a $33,400 per plate. Clinton will also attend a dinner fundraiser at the Beverly Hills home of billionaire entertainment mogul Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl, the biggest Hollywood donors to her campaign this season.
The guest list for the event at the Saban home is said to include Disney CEO Bob Iger, outgoing DreamWorks Animation head Jeffrey Katzenberg, superagent and L.A. Olympics bid chief Casey Wasserman and MarketShare CEO Jon Vein.
