Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby has gone “completely blind” and is now confined to his Pennsylvania home, according to reports.
“His alleged victims may take some solace in the fact that he’s in his own personal hell. He has been suffering from a degenerative eye disease and is completely blind. All his Hollywood friends have turned their backs on him,” a source told the New York Post‘s Page Six.
Last December, the embattled comedian was seen stumbling into a Philadelphia courthouse, guided by his attorneys, where he was arraigned on a criminal charge of sexual assault.
“He’s a 78-year-old blind man who they’ve chosen to charge,” Cosby’s attorney Monique Pressley said at the time, according to the Washington Post. “That’s not a defense to a charge, that’s just a fact.”
Cosby’s declining eyesight was first disclosed in a defamation lawsuit the 79-year-old comedian filed against one of his accusers, Beverly Johnson.
“Mr. Cosby has suffered from a degenerative eye condition for years, which has steadily worsened recently to the point that he for over a year has been legally and functionally blind,” the lawsuit said, according to the New York Times.
Now according to the Post, Cosby’s sight has gone altogether.
“He is confined to his house in Pennsylvania, and the only person on his side is his wife, Camille, who is masterminding his defense. His only friends are the small army of lawyers on his payroll,” a source told the Post.
On Friday, U.S. Judge Eduardo Robreno tossed parts of Cosby’s lawsuit against one of his accusers, ruling that she and other parties involved couldn’t be sued for violating a confidential settlement agreement after they talked to law enforcement about allegations of sexual assault.
Cosby is currently awaiting trial for the alleged aggravated assault of a woman in 2004.
