USA Network has delayed the premiere of action thriller Shooter by one week following the sniper attack in Dallas, Texas that left five police officers dead and another seven wounded last week.
The series, based on the 2007 film of the same name and starring Ryan Phillippe and Omar Epps, will premiere Tuesday, July 26 instead of Tuesday, July 19, the network said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter on Monday.
“In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series Shooter to July 26,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement.
Shooter stars Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger, a U.S. Army sniper who must clear his name and return to his family when he is framed for a crime he did not commit. The series is based on the 2007 Antoine Fuqua-directed film that starred Mark Wahlberg in the title role.
Shooter becomes the latest television series to be held back following a real-life tragedy. USA Network delayed the first-season finale of hacker drama Mr. Robot in August due to similarities between a scene in the episode and the real-life on-air murders of reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward in Virginia.
Episodes of Supergirl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 24 and TNT’s The Last Ship have all been similarly delayed in recent years.
