Daniel Radcliffe is an FBI agent embedded with a violent group of white supremacists in the first trailer for the thriller Imperium.
Here’s the official synopsis of the film from Lionsgate Premiere:
Nate Foster (Daniel Radcliffe), a young, idealistic FBI agent, goes undercover to take down a radical right-wing terrorist group. The bright up-and-coming analyst must confront the challenge of sticking to a new identity while maintaining his real principles as he navigates the dangerous underworld of white supremacy.
Director Daniel Ragussis told Entertainment Weekly that he tried to make the film as “real and authentic” as possible by studying the contemporary white supremacist movement.
“We’re witnessing a surge in far-right groups all across Europe; in some cases they’re nearly winning national elections,” Ragussis told the outlet. “We have a stereotype of what it means to be a white supremacist, but when I began collaborating with [writer] Michael [German] and doing my own research, I was stunned by the depth and the extent of this movement.”
In addition to Radcliffe, the film also stars Toni Collette, Nestor Carbonell, Burn Gorman, Sam Trammell and Tracy Letts.
Ragussis wrote the screenplay off of a story by Michael German, who reportedly spent years embedded with a neo-Nazi group.
Imperium is in theaters and on video-on-demand on August 19.
