Former Disney child star Joey Cramer was arrested last week in connection with a bank robbery in Canada on April 29.
Police said the 42-year-old Cramer took police on a high-speed car chase days after he held up a bank 30 miles northwest of Vancouver. Cramer allegedly used a disguise, including a wig and bandana, to rob the Scotiabank building during daylight hours before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the Coast Reporter.
The actor was reportedly arrested two days later and charged with robbery, disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offense, failure to stop for a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Despite a starring turn in Disney’s 1986 film Flight of the Navigator, police investigators said they were more familiar with the face on the bank’s surveillance footage because of Cramer’s alleged run-ins with law enforcement in British Columbia.
“Despite the fact that a disguise was used during the robbery, the suspect was quickly identified by some of our officers, who had recently dealt with him on an unrelated matter,” said Const. Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP.
Cramer, whose real name is Deleriyes Joe Cramer, starred in his first film in 1984 alongside Tom Selleck, in Runaway.
The actor’s breakout role came two years later, when he was cast to play a boy abducted by aliens in the 1986 movie, Flight of the Navigator.
The former Disney star also appeared in two episodes of Murder, She Wrote in 1986. His last credited role was in the 1987 television movie Stone Fox.
Since the end of his acting career, Cramer has reportedly spent time in jail and faced several charges related to check cashing fraud in 2011.
