Compton, California-based rapper Kendrick Lamar received praise from the Obama White House for his racially and politically charged performance at the 58th annual Grammy Awards where Lamar and his backup dancers sang the song “The Blacker The Berry,” clad in prison uniforms and chains.
Lamar happens to be among President Obama’s favorite musicians, as Breitbart News has previously reported. President Obama named Lamar’s song “How Much a Dollar Cost” from the album “To Pimp a Butterfly” as his favorite song of 2015.
Kendrick Lamar is also a celebrity spokesman for the Obama administration’s My Brother’s Keeper program, a public-private initiative that promotes mentoring among disadvantaged youths.
The 28-year-old’s Grammy performance was received at Monday’s event with a standing ovation from the crowd.
