Cloverfield fans got a nice surprise on Thursday as Paramount dropped the first trailer for a surprise sequel, 10 Cloverfield Lane, in front of showings of 13 Hours.
While little is known about the project, producer J.J. Abrams says the film is a “blood relative” of the original Cloverfield, the hit 2008 found-footage thriller that saw a massive alien monster terrorize the streets of New York.
10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr. Plot details are scarce, but it looks like the trio are forced to live in an underground bunker while something or someone is still out there. Here’s the official synopsis:
After a car accident, a young woman awakens in an underground cellar, where most of the action takes place. She fears she has been abducted by a survivalist, who tells her he saved her life and that a chemical attack has left the outside world uninhabitable. Uncertain what to believe, she decides she must escape, whatever dangers she may face outside.
Dan Trachtenberg directs from a script by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken.
10 Cloverfield Lane hits theaters in just two months, on March 11. Check out the trailer above.
