Super Bowl 50 will feature the British rock band Coldplay as its halftime act on February 7.

The game takes place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The halftime extravaganza follows on the heels of the release of Coldplay’s new album A Head Full of Dreams, which drops Friday. The band, which boasts global sales of more than 100 million records, gained fame through such hits as “Speed of Sound,” “Viva la Vida” and “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall.”

One source told The Sun, “The Super Bowl offer is a no-brainer for the band. It’s the biggest show in the world and they reckon it’s finally their time to step up and do it.”

The 2103 halftime entertainment Bruno Mars will also perform at halftime. Coldplay recently joined Beyonce for the recording of the song “Hymn for the Weekend.”

Reputed contenders for the prize of performing at Super Bowl 50 included Taylor Swift and Maroon 5. Past Super Bowl acts include The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Paul McCartney, Prince, U2, Michael Jackson, and, of course, Up with People.
