LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 9 (UPI) — George A. Romero’s zombie comic series, Empire of the Dead, will reportedly be adapted by AMC.

Marvel Zombies artist Arthur Suydam revealed the news to WHAS11 at Wizard Word Louisville over the weekend, saying, “This just got signed to AMC. The new big zombie series on AMC is expected to be this one right here.”

Production company Demarest Films first announced the project at the Cannes International Film Festival in May. Romero and longtime collaborator Peter Grunwald will co-write the adaptation and co-executive produce with Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson.

Romero is known for directing Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, and previously wrote The Death of Death for DC Comics. Empire of the Dead is a 15-issue Marvel publication that was released in 2014.

AMC is already home to The Walking Dead, which is based on the Robert Kirkman comic series of the same name, and its prequel, Fear the Walking Dead. The former is in its sixth season and airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, while the latter debuted in August.
