A teenage Floridan who angered Internet users for donning blackface with a Nicki Minaj Halloween costume is being joined by an Alabama school teacher, who also painted up to appear as rapper Kanye West.
The New York Daily News reports an unnamed high school student painted her face black as part of a Nicki Minaj Halloween costume and posted images of the event on Twitter.
The girl showed up wearing a skin-tight leopard print outfit, which was equipped with a gigantic padded butt and a white wig.
“Nicki Minaj and Drake in the cut #DynamicDuo #homecoming #ovo,” she wrote on Twitter, per the Daily News.
After the post went viral, the girl received responses such as, “I’m honestly amazed by people who wear blackface in 2015.”
“It takes an absurd amount of disrespect to do something so historically hateful,” said one angry tweeter, with another commenting, “Getting dress up as a black girl is totally ok? It’s not ok ever.”
One user went as far as to threaten her admission into the University of Florida over the costume, writing, “She’s trying to apply to UF. I know the admissions people up there. I’ll send this in today.”
The teen took down her account over the backlash, writing, “I sincerely apologize for my actions. I did not mean to offend anyone with my homecoming costume.”
Meanwhile, Alabama school 5th grade teacher Heath Morrow came under fire earlier this week for appearing in blackface as Kanye West at a private party with his wife, who was dressed as reality TV star Kim Kardashian.
After the photo went viral, Morrow and his wife apologized for the “error in judgement.”
After calls for Morrow to be fired, Decatur City Schools Superintendent Ed Nichols told local media Tuesday the teacher would keep his job.
“We’re having school,” the superintendent told AL.com. “Heath taught yesterday and Heath taught today. We feel like he made a statement about the issue and that happened away from school. That’s his business.”
