Usher’s New Music Video ‘Chains’ Forces You to Stare into Trayvon Martin’s Eyes

Usher, Nas and Bibi Bourelly have dropped a highly interactive video for their new song “Chains.”

The rap song highlights the so-called “police brutality” deaths of people of color, with Nas rapping, “I am no prison commodity, not just a body you throw in a cell.”

The video, available exclusively on Tidal, requires viewers to use their front-facing webcam to track their eye movements.

“While racial injustice keeps killing, society keeps looking away,” the video begins. “To listen to Usher’s song ‘Chains,’ look in the eyes of unarmed victims.”

Viewers must then activate their webcam and keep their eyes on the screen as photographs of Trayvon Martin, Rekia Boyd, and more cycle through on screen. If viewers turn their head to look away, the video stops playing.

The trio debuted their new song at the Tidal x 1020 concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Tuesday night. Check out the video of the performance above. Click here to see the Tidal video for “Chains.”
