The first red-band trailer for gritty cop drama Triple 9 was released online this week.
From director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road, Lawless), Triple 9 follows a group of dirty cops forced to do a job for the Russian mafia. When things go awry, heads roll, both literally and figuratively (seriously, check out that nasty shot of the severed heads on the trunk of the cop car).
“I’m just trying to make a difference,” rookie cop Chris Allen (Casey Affleck) says in the trailer. “I know how it sounds.”
“Forget about that,” replies a chuckling Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen (Woody Harrelson). “Your job: out-monster the monster. And get home at the end of the night.”
Triple 9 boasts an impressively star-studded cast including Affleck, Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Gal Gadot, Norman Reedus, and Teresa Palmer.
Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl) is set to compose the music for the film, and from the sound of the eerie “This Little Piggy” montage in the trailer, the score will be suitably creepy.
Hillcoat directs off of a script from in-demand screenwriter Matt Cook (Swim).
Triple 9 hits theaters February 19, 2016. Check out the red-band trailer above.
