The first extended look at HBO’s new music drama Vinyl was released online this week.
In Vinyl, Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire) plays Richie Finestra, founder of the fictional American Century Records, as he works to stay one step ahead in the bustling music scene of late 1970s New York.
“Think back to the first time you heard a song that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, made you want to dance or go out and kick somebody’s ass,” Cannavale says in the trailer. “That’s what I’m talking about.”
Martin Scorcese directed the pilot episode and serves as executive producer on the new series alongside Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman (Get on Up, Shine a Light), and George Mastras (Breaking Bad). Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, The Wolf of Wall Street) is the series’ showrunner.
Olivia Wilde plays plays Finesra’s wife Devon, while Ray Romano co-stars as Zak Yankovich, one of his partners in the music business. The cast also includes Andrew Dice Clay, James Jagger, Jack Quaid, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, and P.J. Byrne.
Vinyl premieres on HBO in January. Check out the trailer above.
