Disney star Zendeya is now the owner of a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll featuring her likeness, including her look from the 2015 Oscars.
Zendeya attended the red carpet ceremonies before the 87th Academy Awards, sporting dreadlocks with an off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown.
The teen actress was later ridiculed by former E! Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic, who said “I feel that she smells like patchouli oil…or weed.”
Zendeya fired back at Rancic, calling her remarks “ignorant racial slurs” and “outrageously offensive.”
Rancic apologized twice for her comments, but eventually resigned from the show.
The drama continued when Fashion Police co-host Kelly Osbourne also quit the show over Rancic’s statements.
Seven months later, Barbie has decided to honor Zendeya with a signature doll, which is not available for purchase.
“We are so excited to honor @Zendeya with this one-of-a-kind doll as she encourages girls to Raise Their Voices and inspires us to #BeSuper,” the doll company wrote online.
The actress took to her own Instagram page to share the news, along with a split image of her and the doll.
“When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, my…how times have changed,” said Zendeya. “Thank you @Barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be [part] of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty. Can’t wait to keep doing amazing things with you.”
Rapper Nicki Minaj heard the news about Zendeya’s new doll, and was quick to remind her followers that Barbie had once made her a doll, too. After being criticized by several followers for taking a “ride off another girl’s moment,” the singer posted her own photo split with both dolls, saying “Should have matching bff Barbie cars with the dream house to match.”
@zendaya they should have matching bff Barbie cars with the dreamhouse to match. Love this.
