Emmy-award winning producer Andre Bauth, who was accused earlier this month of stabbing his tenant after he allegedly mocked him for saying he would win five Academy Awards, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
TheWrap reports prosecutors say Bauth, a Daytime Emmy winner for his soap opera The Bay, attacked 23-year-old actor Clayton Haymes with a kitchen knife at their Studio City home on Sept. 8, after Haymes allegedly scoffed at the idea that Bauth would eventually bring home five Oscars.”When he said, ‘five Oscars,’ we all kind of laughed a bit, and he got really upset,” Haymes told CBS Los Angeles. “I was terrified for my life, I’m just happy to be alive.”
The two men previously worked on a film together called El Landlord, which is about a homeowner with plans to make it big in Hollywood, but ends up killing several of his tenants, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued a warrant for Bauth’s arrest shortly after the incident, but was unable to locate him. Bauth ended up turning himself in at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City on Sept. 17, The DA’s office reported.
Bauth was arraigned Monday on one count of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
A bail motion hearing is set for Sept. 24, and Bauth faces up to 13 years in state prison if convicted, per TheWrap.
His bail is set at $550,000.
