Robert Zemeckis’ biopic of infamous World Trade Center high-wire walker Philippe Petit got an extended new IMAX trailer this week.
The Walk stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Petit, who crossed the span between the towers in 1974 without a safety harness, using just a balance pole to keep himself upright. The slightest misstep would have sent the French daredevil plummeting to certain death.
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Gordon-Levitt compared Petit to notorious NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden: “Both of them are incredibly driven towards something they believe in.”
“People ask me, ‘Why do you risk death?'” Petit asks in the trailer. “For me, this is life.”
Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Cast Away) directs off of his own script, written in collaboration with newcomer Christopher Browne. The film co-stars Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon and Ben Schwartz.
The Walk hits theaters September 30. Check out the IMAX trailer above.
