Jessica Chastain’s gun control thriller “Miss Sloane” has been picked up by EuropaCorp and production is set to begin in March 2016.
In the film–written by Jonathan Perera–Chastain will play a lobbyist who dedicates everything she has to securing passage of stricter gun control laws. Deadline described Chastain’s role by saying, “She would play the lead, the seasoned lobbyist who, with her small team of politicos, attempts to pass the hot-button legislation into federal law while going up against well-financed and unscrupulous members of the gun lobby.”
According to The Wrap, the film “was sold at the Toronto Film Festival.” Upon acquiring the film EuropaCorp CEO Christopher Lambert said. “The film’s subject matter of gun control is an incredibly important issue in today’s world. John Madden and Jessica Chastain bring with them such a high level of artistry, making ‘Miss Sloane’ a perfect addition to the EuropaCorp slate.”
FilmNation Entertainment will also play a role in the film’s production and it will be directed by John Madden.
Variety magazine quoted FilmNation CEO Glen Basner as saying, “We at FilmNation are excited to be partnering with EuropaCorp. And we are thrilled to see John Madden and Jessica Chastain working together again on what we know will be a highly entertaining and thought provoking film.”
Variety predicts the subject matter of gun control will make Miss Sloane “a hot-button [film].” They suggest this is so because of “mass shootings in places like Newton, Conn. and the live television murder of two Virginia-based television reporters.” They did not mention that Virginia gunman Vester Lee Flanagan acquired his gun by passing a background check–even though gun control proponents like Gabby Gaffords and Mark Kelly repeated tell us background checks make us safer. Variety also went without mentioning that Adam Lanza–the Newtown gunman–stole his firearms, thereby demonstrating that new gun control laws would not have stopped him either.
