Emmy-award winning producer Andre Bauth is accused of stabbing his tenant, actor Clayton Haymes, after the man and a group of his friends mocked the producer for saying he would win five Academy Awards.
Early Tuesday morning, police were called to the pair’s shared residence on Lauren Canyon Boulevard in Studio City, Los Angeles, after a man was reported stabbed.
According to law enforcement, as reported by CBS Los Angeles, both Bauth and Haymes had gone out drinking with a group of friends. After returning home, the two got into an argument after Bauth mentioned he was going to win five Oscars.
Haymes told CBS he and the other friends laughed at the producer for the ambitious statement, which he did not take well.
Bauth, who was born in Colombia, allegedly chased Haymes through a room with a knife, and stabbed him in the chest, puncturing one of his lungs. Bauth then reportedly fled the scene and is still on the lamb.
Haymes was taken to a local hospital, where he is still recovering.
“I was terrified for my life. I’m just happy to be alive,” said the 23-year-old actor. “I just don’t understand why he would want to do this to me ‘cause we’re friends.”
The two men worked on a film called El Landlord together, which eerily is about a homeowner hoping to make it big in Hollywood, when he ends up killing several of his tenants, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bauth won an Emmy in 2015 as a producer on The Bay: The Series which won the award in the Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series category. He is wanted by police on a charge of attempted murder.
