Reality television matriarch Kris Kardashian and her daughter Khloe will face lawsuits from several Marina del Rey families who say they suffered emotional distress after the famous family set off a raucous fireworks display in the middle of the night last week.

The Kardashians were hosting a birthday party for Houston Rockets shooting guard (and Khloe’s boyfriend) James Harden last Tuesday night on a boat off the coast of Marina when the group launched a 15-minute fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.

The loud display woke up hundreds of Santa Monica and Marina del Rey residents, who reportedly flooded police and fire stations with 911 calls because no one could immediately determine the source of the noise.

According to TMZ, twelve families from Marina del Rey will take Kris and Khloe Kardashian to small claims court for setting off the midweek fireworks extravaganza, claiming emotional distress. One resident with multiple sclerosis claims her illness has gotten worse since the incident.

The families will each look to recover $7,500 in damages from the Kardashians, but the celebrity outlet reports that the money is beside the point; the families simply want to confront the Kardashians to ask about the incident first-hand.

Los Angeles County officials were seething after the incident; Supervisor Don Knabe reportedly blamed the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department for failing to shut the party down and city Councilman Mike Bonin called the display “ridiculous” and “rude.”
