A former Subway franchisee now claims embattled Subway spokesman Jared Fogle confessed to engaging in sexual acts with children as young as age nine in Thailand.
Cindy Mills, a Subway franchisee from 2006 to 2012, says Fogle had confessed to her he had sex with minors, telling Business Insider, “He would just tell me he really liked them young.”
Moreover, Mills alleges Fogle told her he had sex with minors between the ages of 9 and 16 years old during a past trip to Thailand, and that she alerted officials at Subway but they did nothing.
The former Subway franchisee claims she first attempted to reach out to a regional Subway contact in Florida to report Fogle’s disturbing comments.
Mills further claims she turned to Jeff Moody, who at the time ran the Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust, and even offered to show Moody texts from Fogle to prove her claims to be valid.
Moody reportedly told Mills he had already heard similar complaints from others.
“He said, ‘Don’t worry, he has met someone. She is a teacher and he seems to love her very much, and we think she will keep him grounded,” Mills said to Business Insider.
Mills said she then hired an attorney after Subway did not act on her claims.
“I thought, ‘This man has a lot of money. Subway has a lot of money. They have made each other a lot of money,'” Mills continued. “I was worried. I was scared to death.”
Fogle confessed earlier this month to having sex with at least two minors, and to obtaining child pornography of 12 children, some as young as 6.
Mills said she became so distressed that she eventually sold all her franchises.
She now hopes others will come forward to make similar claims.
Fogle reached a plea deal and will only spend between five to 12 years in prison.
An investigation has been launched to determine how much his former company knew about Fogle’s lewd acts.
