‘Batman’ who Visited Terminally Sick Kids Dies After Batmobile Breaks Down on Highway

A man who was known for dressing up as Batman and visiting terminally ill children in hospitals died over the weekend after his custom Batmobile was struck by another car on a Maryland highway.

Lenny Robinson, 51, was known as the “Baltimore Batman,” and became an Internet sensation in 2012 after he was pulled over by police, while dressed as Batman, for not displaying proper tags in Silver Spring, MD.

Robinson was driving the same custom black Lamborghini Batmobile Sunday night on eastbound I-70 near Hagerstown, MD when the car broke down, and he exited to check the engine.

Fox Baltimore reports state troopers responded to the scene of a crash around 10:30 p.m. ET, and found that Robinson had been struck after a Toyota Camry slammed into the back of the car, as it sat in the fast lane of the highway.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and has not been charged with any crimes, but police confirmed the “Baltimore Batman” died at the scene.

Robinson started a successful commercial cleaning company in his teens, but sold the business to become president of “Superheroes for Kids, Inc.”

He first started visiting sick children in the Baltimore area in 2001, and spent thousands of dollars annually on toys, sunglasses and other gifts for area kids, in addition to visiting schools to talk about bullying.
