Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter was stabbed to death on a New York City sidewalk Sunday morning.
E’Dena Hines, 33 — the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw — was stabbed multiple times in the torso shortly before 3 a.m. in the Washington Heights area of the city, reports the New York Post.
Responding officers reportedly arrived to find Hines’ ex-boyfriend screaming “incoherently” over her body. She was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The suspect was reportedly arrested and taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Freeman mourned his goddaughter’s passing in a statement:
“The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
According to her website, Hines studied at New York University’s Graduate Acting Program and was working as an actor and writer in the city at the time of her death. According to a recent blog post, she began filming a role for indie movie Landing Up in early July.
